Leslie Jones Defends Her Character In Ghostbusters

Leslie Jones started receiving some major backlash, both to herself, and director Paul Feig on the basis of her character being the "stereotypical sassy black friend" as USA Today put it. Paul came to the defense of the character, insisting that Melissa McCarthy was supposed to play this character, and then was switched to Leslie because of her skill set.  He's quoted by USA Today saying “I wanted to unleash Leslie on the public in the same way we unleashed Melissa on the public in Bridesmaids, with a very showy role.” Leslie is the best at having that fiery, passionate, and crazy delivery, which is why we can see why she was awarded the role. Feig blatantly requested Leslie not to leave Twitter after all of the backlash, tweeting "Don't leave us. You are a goddess & one of the warmest funniest forces of nature I know.
