While just 24 hours, Earth Day provides us the opportunity to showcase and celebrate the effort devoted and contributions made to our planet all 365 days a year by individuals and companies alike. One such company is Stream2Sea. We spoke to founder Autumn Blum about their earth-friendly products and devotion to the cause.
Why is Earth Day important to Stream2Sea?
At Stream2Sea, we have chosen to celebrate Earth Day everyday, although we celebrate any occasion to focus on education and what individuals, businesses and groups can do to make a positive difference for our environment! Earth day is time to reflect on our mission to provide EcoTested products, proven safe for you and our waters. Earth Day provides global awareness and encourages everyone to reflect and realize the consequences of our actions, and how those actions might affect our precious world.
How does Stream2Sea philosophies contribute year round?
We have a fierce love for our planet blue and all her natural resources, along with a driving desire to protect her. When it comes to exploring this amazing planet, it is our responsibility to know how we, as explorers, might impact marine environments. The body care products we use can harm our fragile marine ecosystems, so it is important to choose wisely. We strive to educate our fellow outdoor explorers and consumers, making them aware that every product used on our bodies ultimately reaches our oceans, and how their choice in skin care does impact the environment. Our sunscreens are mineral-based, oxybenzone-free and free from any chemical ingredient that’s been shown to harm our waters. Consumers can feel good knowing that our formulas have all been eco-tested and were formulated to be safe for humans and our waters.
Please tell us why cruelty free is important to you.
In order to prove that our products are safe for use in our waters it was necessary to test on living organisms. This was a really hard decision for us to make, but because there were no tissue models or other studies that could replicate aquatic safety, we chose to test on fish and coral larvae prior to launching. You can read more about my tough decision here and see our test results here.
