Keith Urban's field-leading seven Academy of Country Music Awards nominations came as a surprise to him on Thursday (February 16).
Urban tells us he had left his cell phone at home as he and wife Nicole Kidman took their two young daughters to school in the morning, and when they got back "I looked at (the phone) and it was just overflowing wtih texts and calls, and I'm like, 'What the hell is all this?' It was a terrific way to find out. I felt quite giddy."
Urban is up for Entertainer of the Year for a seventh time along with Male Vocalist of the Year, and as both artist and producer in the Album of the Year ("Ripcord"), and Song and Single of the year ("Blue Ain't Your Color") categories.
He's won six previous ACM Awards, starting with Top New Male Vocalist in 2001, and he plans to perform at this year's ceremony on April 2 in Las Vegas. "I don't know what we're gonna do yet," he says. "We're talking about that. We'll figure all that out soon."
Urban has a handful of festival shows booked this year but isn't planning another full-scale tour until 2018.
