The trio's Dave Haywood points to "Hurt," an emotional song the band had been familiar with for more than a year before recording it. They're telling the song's story and explaining their affection for it in a new video.
"There was a song Charles [Kelley] brought back up that we'd been pitched in the past," Haywood recalls at the outset. "And I remember hearing it maybe a year ago."
"We tried it a couple of different ways," Charles Kelley adds. "At first I was singing the song and it just felt like it didn't have quite as much vulnerability."
That's when Hillary Scott took the lead. "It's very raw," she admits. "It's very emotional to sing for me."
Producer Busbee took the reins from there, employing strings and other select instruments to draw out even more emotion. Watch below.
