Rascal Flatts: Songs We Passed On
Just like actors passing on big hit movies, music stars sometimes pass on hit songs. Just ask Rascal Flatts, who recently revealed two tunes that turned out to be huge for other stars.
Remember “Don’t You Wanna Stay” by Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson? That was one. Another now belongs to Gary Allan. “‘Watching Airplanes’ by Gary Allan is one that we were pitched early on,” the trio’s Jay DeMarcus admits through the group’s record label. “You know you can have different days and a song hits you a certain way and it just didn’t … we didn’t feel like it was us. We thought it was a great song, but we were like, ‘No I don’t think we can do it.’ And then I heard it on the radio and I was like, ‘Damn!'”
The Flatts guys recently made up for it, though. “Ironically it was Jonathan Singleton that wrote ‘Watching Airplanes,'” Joe Don Rooney adds. “And he wrote ‘Yours if You Want It.’ So we didn’t pass this time, we cut it!”
This calls for a little fun, right? Close your eyes tight, turn your speakers up and push play on the video below. Can you even imagine it being sung by someone else? Maybe things work out exactly how they’re supposed to!
