Dierks Bentley Calls Vegas Shooting “Darkest Thing I Can Remember Since 9/11”
Like everyone, Dierks Bentley was deeply affected by the October 1st shooting in Las Vegas, calling it in one interview “the heaviest, darkest thing I can remember since 9/11.”
The “Black” singer has gone so far as to limit social media use since the tragedy. “I’m having a hard time even physically moving right now,” he tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I had to take Twitter off my phone because I’ve just been looking at it for two days straight.”

One reason it hit so close to home has to do with the nature of the relationship between country fans and artists. “Those fans are all family to us,” he continues. “It’s a community like no other, and I’m sure I know some people that were killed or wounded. We see a lot of the same faces on the road. It’s a really tight group. The boundaries between the audience and the stage are thin, metaphorically, in country music.”
Dierks’ own touring schedule is clear for the immediate future, something he’s thankful for. “Fortunately I’m off the road for a little while,” he tells the publication. “I would have to dig really deep to walk onto a stage right now.
