Vince Gill Calls Collaboration With Maren Morris “One Of My Favorite Things I’ve Ever Done”
Vince Gill is speaking out about his collaboration with Maren Morris on “Dear Hate,” which she released in the wake of this month’s deadly Las Vegas shooting. She actually penned the tune with songwriters Tom Douglas and David Hodges following the 2015 Charleston, SC church shooting, and asked Vince to lend his talents shortly thereafter.
Maren initially asked the country icon for help with guitar and harmonies, but Vince was so moved by the song that he contributed more. “I was so moved I did something I’ve never done before – I sang one of the verses unsolicited,” he tells Billboard. “After I finished and sent her my contributions, I told her she didn’t have to use it, but explained I felt compelled to sing those words. I’m so glad she decided to include it.”
“Dear Hate”
Vince is heard on many songs these days, those by Chris Young and Faith Hill included, but “Dear Hate” is special. “Over the years I’ve been asked to contribute to a lot of songs,” he tells the publication. “This is one of my favorite things I’ve ever done. Thank you, Maren, for letting me share this sentiment with you.”
