Fixer Upper Stars Slapped With Huge Fine
Chip and Joanna Gaines have been fined by the Environmental Protection Agency.
According to Buzz Feed News, the EPA is accusing the couple’s company, Magnolia Homes, of not taking proper precautions during renovations.
The EPA states they observed several violations regarding lead paint while Fixer Upper was still on the air.
While lead paint is no longer used, many homes built prior to 1978 still contain lead paint on their walls.
With that being said, federal laws are in place to minimize dangerous dust circulating in the air during renovations.
Magnolia Homes settled with the EPA, and will pay a $40,000 fine to the agency.
A spokesperson for the company said they are now following federal rules and regulations regarding renovations on structures that contain lead based paint.
