WATCH: Marissa Chats With Rascal Flatts Backstage At The Opry!
The summer was winding down when I hopped a plane at Logan Airport and headed to Nashville. Music City, as it’s dubbed, is a highlight for everyone that passes through, but this wasn’t going to be just any trip.
I sat in my seat, right by the window, watching the sun rise as I took out my notepad. That’s where I had jotted down a list of questions to interview one of the biggest names in Country music: Rascal Flatts.
After almost 20 years together and 17 Number One Country singles, Rascal Flatts is back with what could be Number 18t: “Back to Life.” After getting to Nashville and settling in, I took an Uber down to The Grand Ole Opry, where the guys were going to be playing a special show later that night.
I walked the winding halls backstage at the Opry, passing one piece of country history after another. Seeing the stage itself being set for the upcoming USA reality show “Real Country” that’s debuting in November; sitting in the green room as tour after tour came through to hear the legendary stories of backstage antics. Looking into the mirror in one of the dressing rooms and wondering how many “stars-to-be” did the same not knowing their next single was THE single.
Rascal Flatts were inducted into the Opry back in September of 2011 and since then have taken the stage hundreds of times. As we sat in their very vibey dressing room, they told me the story of their first time playing the historical venue, the do’s and don’ts they’ve learned over the years of touring, why “Back to Life” was chosen as their next single and more.
The guys teased that a new album may be a while away, if they ever release another one. But, don’t worry, that doesn’t mean we won’t get any new music. They plan on releasing the best of the best that they create as they record it.
