Miranda Lambert On CMAs: ‘What Happens If I Don’t Win?’
Miranda Lambert has won the CMA’s Female Vocalist of the Year honor six straight times and is up for the honor again this year with reigning winner Carrie Underwood as well as Maren Morris, Kacey Musgraves and Kelsea Ballerini.
As Miranda told us, the CMA Awards have been a big deal to her all her life. She recalled, “I was a kid that had my yellow legal pad with all the nominees written down and would sit in front of CMAs and pick my winners and our family would bet on it. It was like a big deal in my house. I’ve been obsessed with country music since I was born, basically.”
Winning the Female Vocalist is not old hat to Lambert who says, “It doesn’t ever feel like it’s not new to me. It always feels exciting and new when you are in a category with some of the greatest singers and you’re going to sit there and watch Dolly and Reba host with Carrie, like, that’s really cool. You know what I mean? So I’ll never, like, take that for granted.”
She’s not sure when her reign at the CMA’s or in country music will be over. “I’m like, ‘OK, what happens if I don’t win?’ Then is it over forever? What happens? No one ever tells you what to expect when you actually reach your goals. I want everybody to feel that feeling. I want everybody to share in what it’s like for your peers to hand you the CMA, because they voted for you because they believed in what you’re doing. And so if I ever win one again. That’s great. But I have to work for it, you know, and now there’s stiff competition and I like that. But I’m happy to hand it to any one of those girls. I mean, everybody deserves it. We all work really hard.”
The CMA Awards will air live on ABC on November 13 at 7PM CT.
