Retirement Home For Service Monkeys Being Built in Allston
Helping Hands has received approval to to expand its facility on Cambridge Street in Allston to provide a peaceful, comfortable place for service monkeys who have gotten too old to help clients.
The organization places specially trained capuchin monkeys with disabled clients to help them with daily tasks, such as retrieving dropped or out of reach objects, helping with a drink of water, turning pages, scratching itches, pushing buttons and switches for remotes, turning on lights, and much more.
Helping Hands will add a roughly 528-square-foot addition, which will let the group create a second-floor home for senior monkeys to “enjoy the rest of their natural lives.”
