City Councilor Wants Boston to Adjust Parking Tickets Based on Driver’s Income
The average parking ticket in Boston can range anywhere from $15 up to $150. City Councilor Julia Mejia is introducing legislation that would adjust parking ticket prices based on the driver’s income.
Mejia says she’s proposing this legislation so low-income families don’t have to choose between paying a parking ticket or putting food on the table for themselves and their family. People against the idea say regardless of a person’s income, drivers should focus on obeying parking rules – so this should not be an issue.
Meija’s idea is being proposed today in a hearing in front of the Boston City Council.
