Looking “pretty in pink” Kelsea Ballerini stopped by our studios after her surprise appearance at Country 102.5, Acoustic Live! to talk about her new album.
Kelsea, her third album was released today (3/20) and includes Homecoming Queen? and Hole In The Bottle. She went into the album writing process with a Miss Me More attitude being sassy, bold and empowering. Then once she wrote Homecoming Queen? everything changed. Kelsea spoke about how this led her to re-find herself as a 26 year old woman which can be vulnerable. Carolyn remembered how Kelsea’s first single Love Me Like You Mean It came out when she was just twenty and we’ve watch her grow up through her music.
This is her first album featuring collaborations, but she’s no stranger to cross overs including Thomas Rhett and The Chainsmokers. Those songs led her to fall in love with the process of collaborating and wanting to include them on this album. She never thought she’d have two features with the people she wanted most, one with Halsey and one with Kenny Chesney.
We don’t always hear a proper drinking song from female artists, but Kelsea is bringing them back! Hole in the Bottle started out as a joke. Kelsea was doing a writing camp in Florida having some dinner and wine, messing around. Then Hillary Lindsey started singing the line “There’s a hole in the bottle” and after listening to a few clips they realized they had a song.
With this new album Kelsea is most proud of the honesty, it’s an extension of herself. Over the last two years she’s personally worked to become more self-aware and re-get to know herself which led Kelsea to have a proud, new level of depth.
