As of right now, the state issued stay at home advisory and non-essential business closures are set to expire next week on May 4th, however Massachusetts’ biggest city is already saying it is definitely not ready to reopen.
“There is no question that May 4 is too early,” Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said. “I can tell you right now Boston will not reopen on May 4.”
Walsh says he would have concerns if measures were to be relaxed in the city and state without “clear and thoughtful plans.”
Those plans are being worked on, the Mayor said, and both Boston and the state are building a framework to guide short and long term recovery.
Governor Charlie Baker has said that an announcement is coming “later this week” with regards to whether state officials will be extending the May 4th deadline.
