Hingham Dino Brings Joy to the South Shore
All adults know that sometimes too much wine can ead to bad decisions, but not for this Hingham hero. 3-4 weeks ago Nic Nihan was at home in a somber state of mind. The current pandemic was getting to her. She couldn’t see her family and friends and she wasn’t seeing an end in sight and the emotions hit her all at once. Nic, I feel ya girl.
You see Nic is fun and outgoing soul, and loves to dress up and have a good time. Even when her friends started doing zoom calls she dressed up as Joe Exotic from Tiger King.
But let’s go back to the wine night. We’ve all been there. We start surfing the web, and then we hit the jackpot. PINTREST! She was on Pintrest searching for fun games to play and stumbled across someone in TX who was going to door to door to his friends’ houses in one of those blow up T-Rex outfits. Then Nic had an idea…
She went online and bought a similar T-rex outfit for $17. The adreneline kicked in, she started shaking. She knew that something like this was so silly it might actually boost the spirits of the people around her, and maybe even her spirits.
A week later it came in the mail and on April 25th she stood on the corner of Rt. 228 in Hingham in her t-rex outfit with a sign that boldly said, “Hope is not extinct.”
She was shocked. So many beeps, people got out of their cars with their kids to get pictures with the dino, runners who ran by smiled and waved. Just like that, Nic’s spirits lifted and she started tearing up with happiness.
Three days later she dressed up again and stood outside of the Hingham Police and Fire Department with a sign that said “Beep for our front line.” Her boyfriend works in that building and she says it was her way of giving back to those frontline heroes.
But in just a short time the dino has evolved. Now Hingham T-Rex is doing birthday parties, lawn requests, and more. Just two days ago she appeared at a birthday party for a man who turned 82 who had recently lost his wife.
And with every visit she’s raising money for a great cause. In just a week she’s raised $400 and she’s using that money to make Mother’s Day baskets for Hingham mothers and inside the baskets there will be gift cards from all Hingham-based local businesses to help them stay afloat during this pandemic.
So follow Hingham_Trex because she’s roaring for a cause and she’s on a roll.
And she’s really funny. One of her signs said “Try being me after a fart.”
