Taco Pop-Up Opens Inside Italian Restaurant in the North End
There is no normal right now. So why not open a Mexican restaurant inside an Italian restaurant? La Reina is a new taco pop-up that is located inside Taranta, a popular Italian restaurant in the North End. The reason for the pop-up? Taranta owner/chef Jose Duarte getting creative and crafty.
Taranta is one in an endless sea of delicious Italian restaurants in the North End. Because of the oversaturation, and the pandemic throwing a humongous monkey wrench into the restaurant industry, business has been way down. Most of the North End Italian restaurants offer take-out right now so Taranta was having a hard time standing out and getting business. So Chef Duarte turned to his kitchen staff, most of whom are Mexican and Salvadoran, for input and La Reina was born.
The menu is limited and features tacos, burritos, and pupusas (the national dish. of El Salvador – a thick flatbread stuffed with deliciousness – you have to try them, they are so good).
Takeout orders can be made RIGHT HERE. A Mexican restaurant in an Italian restaurant? I like it. And I hope it helps the restaurant survive these times.
