Gone West’s New Album Is Out Now!
Jonathan Wier & Ayla Brown spoke with all four members of Gone West about the release of their new album Canyons.
You’ve heard What Could’ve Been on Country 102.5, but Jonathan wanted to know when they knew the song was a hit. Colbie says, “I think we all felt really special when we wrote it, but you never know until you play something live.” The first time they played it for fans was something they’ll never forget because of the reaction. By the end of that performance, they knew it was going to be their first single.
Gone West may be from the West Coast, but they wrote and recorded the new album in Nashville. Ayla was surprised by this because the album has such a unique sound, Colby connects this to them co-producing and having such a heavy hand in creating it.
Justin is actually from Hawaii, so Jonathan wondered what the music scene there is like. Justin said, “There’s a robust local music scene in Hawaii that’s really supportive of the local artists.” He also brings up that there are a lot of similarities between Hawaiin and Country music, like the steel guitar and storytelling.
Gone West has been putting up a lot of acoustic performances on their Instagram and the good news is that we can expect more to come! As for their favorite song to cover, Simon and Garfunkel’s Cecilia.
