Dan + Shay's Dan Smyers celebrated his 33rd birthday over the weekend and on Monday (8/17) he posted a thank you to fans on Instagram.

"Thank you all so much for the birthday wishes yesterday," he said. "If you know me, you know that I don’t love attention (yes, probably contradictory to the career path I’ve chosen, because I prefer being the guy pushing buttons behind the scenes), but all your kind words really made me feel good."

He continued, "It’s been a tough year, not being able to work, and feeling like the momentum was swept out from under us, but I’ve been able to find so many silver linings in all of it. Don’t get me wrong, I miss the road, and miss connecting (in person) with our fans, but being forced to slow down has given me the chance to appreciate a little more. It’s been wonderful spending every waking hour with my wife and dogs, who I love and miss with all my heart when I’m on the road."

Smyers added, "It’s also been wonderful to (involuntarily) take a step back, and appreciate all the dreams that have come true over the last few years. I’m constantly hustling, and always looking out for what’s next, sometimes it’s easy to let it pass by too quickly. I’m eager for so many exciting things ahead in the upcoming year, but am processing everything one day at a time, and honestly, becoming better because of it. Thanks again for all the love, and thanks for reading this novel of a caption."
