Yesterday's news that the Sox had traded first baseman Mitch Moreland hit me hard. Not only because he is a country music fan (which he is), but because he just seemed like a guy we could count on for the big hits, when we needed them. He also seemed like a guy we could count on to step up to the plate in the community, and serve where and when needed. Yes, he lived his life off field, the way he did on the field... working hard to help his team, bringing passion to his game and life.

We will miss you, Mitch Moreland.

All the best in San Diego. (Sox traded Moreland in exchange for a pair of prospects in Hudson Potts and Jession Rosario.)

The Red Sox posted this for Mitch yesterday

Over the years, Mitch has used a few country songs as his walk-up to bat song.
