Getting a musical slot on Saturday Night Live is a big deal for any country artist, but for a relatively new artist like Morgan Wallen, it’s huge.
Now, Morgan has lost that gig on SNL this weekend because of Tik Tok videos showing him partying with and kissing college girls in Alabama while not observing social distancing and wearing no mask.
Wallen took to his Instagram with a video addressing the news just minutes ago. He says in the video, “I’m in New York City in a hotel room. I was getting ready for Saturday Night Live and I got a call from the show letting me know that I will no longer be able to play and that’s because of COVID protocols which I understand.”
He continued, “I’m not positive for COVID but my actions this past weekend were pretty short-sighted and they have obviously affected my long-term goals and my dreams. I respect the show’s decision because I know that I put them in jeopardy and I take ownership for this.”
Morgan then apologized saying., “I’d like to apologize to SNL, to my fans I let them down and on a more personal note I think I have some growing up to do, you know I think I’ve lost myself a little bit. I’ve tried to find joy in the wrong places and it’s left me with less joy.”
He also mentioned that SNL creator Lorne Michaels told him that he will be invited back to make up the performance at a future date. “That means a lot to me,” he said. “Thank you for that.”
Wallen also said that he was going to take a step back from the spotlight for a little while and is “go work on myself.”
The first one to respond to his video apology was Little Big Town’s Kimberly Schlapman who wrote, “You are precious!!! Your humility is astounding. We love you!!”
