Maren Morris Thanks Black Female Country Singers In CMA Speech
Maren Morris won a number of awards at the CMAs tonight, including Best Female vocalist. During her acceptance speech for that award, she thanked a number of Black female country singers, including Micky Guyton. “There are some names in my mind that I want to give recognition to because I just love their music and I just want them to know how much we love them back. Mickey Guyton, Yola, Rissi Palmer. There are so many amazing black women that pioneered and continued to pioneer this genre and you’ve made this genre so, so beautiful I hope you know that we see you . Thank you for making me so inspired as singer.”
Mickey Guyton was quick to respond to Morris’s speech, tweeting, “There are no words. Just tears and @iamyola. Thank you.”

Y’all, @MarenMorris just won the entire night & instead of making it about herself she took her moment in the sun to pull other women out of the shade & if that doesn’t hit you in your soul, you cant sit with me. WHAT A QUEEN 👑 #womenempoweringwomen #CMAawards #marenmorris
