The Northern Lights Could Be Visible Over New England Tonight
The aurora borealis is the coolest thing I’ve seen in my life. I saw them when I was a freshman in high school living in South Burlington, Vermont. Green streaks ran across the sky – they were insane! I remember not know what was going on. I was hanging out on the corner with my good friend Jesse in our neighborhood. At that time we were into all things supernatural so we quickly assumed it was the aliens. Definitely the aliens.
We later found out that it was the Northern Lights, a crazy light show in the sky which is the result of disturbances in the magnetosphere caused by solar wind. I have since vowed to someday see them again before my time is done (yes, they’re that cool) and tonight might be the night in New England – including here in Mass!
A recent solar flare is expected to cause the aurora borealis to be visible in parts of the state tonight. Best viewing time is between 10p and 1a tonight and they’ll best be viewed from a location without a lot of excess light pollution – the darker the better. Cross your fingers, look to the north, and hopefully you’ll get one of Mother Nature’s most beautiful and surprising shows tonight.
