Taylor Swift Tops Country Chart Twice With Same Song
Back in 2008, when Taylor Swift was beginning her reign in country music, every single that she released shot straight to the top of the charts. She shifted direction a few years ago, aiming towards the pop charts, but more recently, she’s been sending songs to country radio again.
She recently released her newly recorded version of her 2008 song “Love Story,” and the new version tops both Mediabase and Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart this week.
The last time a song topped the charts twice was in 1982 when Dolly Parton previously achieved the feat with her second version of “I Will Always Love You” (the first version hit #1 in 1974). Swift may have a lot more songs revisit #1, as she is in the process of re-recording her first six albums.
Swift’s “Love Story” is also number one on the “Top Songs,” based on songs with the highest total consumption and current on the Mediabase Country Radio Chart. “Love Story” also tops “New Releases,” released on or after 2/11/21 based on highest total consumption.
The song marked the first time the 31-year-old has launched a song atop the weekly ranking (though she has notched eight at the peak position overall) that measures airplay, sales, and streaming data.
