Women In Country Music – Miranda Lambert
Growing up in Texas, Miranda Lambert was no stranger to music. With influences like Elvis Presley and Willie Nelson, she entered her first country music talent show at only 10- years-old. She then began to sing professionally while still in high school.
Having a passion for country music, Miranda asked her father to teach her how to play the guitar which led her to begin writing her own songs. She had started to perform at local restaurants in Texas and competed in a talent competition called ‘Nashville Star,’ where she was discovered and later signed with a record label.
In 2003, she released her debut single ‘Me and Charlie Talking,’ which was co-written by her father. Talk about coming full circle! Two years later, her debut album ‘Kerosene’ hit number one on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and was even nominated for a Grammy Award.
In addition to singing, did you know Miranda could also act? Yup, that’s right! She appeared in an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. She has also always had a special love for animals. In 2009, she and her mom founded MuttNation Foundation to help shine the spotlight on rescue animals and shelters, ensuring that as many dogs as possible would have a safe and happy place to call home.
Miranda recently announced that she will be opening her own bar in Nashville called “Miranda Lambert’s Casa Rosa.” She will be the first female country artist to have opened her own bar on lower Broadway. What a huge accomplishment, congrats Miranda!
