Women In Country Music – Kelsea Ballerini
Raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, Kelsea Ballerini started writing songs as a young child. Her father was a manager at a country music radio station and she wrote her first song for her mother at age 12. Talk about talent!
After moving to Nashville, she was signed to a record label in 2014 at age 19. She stepped into the spotlight with her debut single “Love Me Like You Mean It” and has been on top ever since. With the release of her debut album, she became the only female country artist to hit number one with her first three consecutive singles from a debut album. Her critically acclaimed sophomore album Unapologetically marked her second Top 5 debut on the Billboard Top 200.
Kelsea has earned two Grammy Award nominations and won two ACM Awards. Her debut and sophomore albums have both been certified gold, and she has a career total of ten gold and platinum singles certifications and total streams exceeding 2 billion to date. Wow, what huge accomplishments!
Additionally, she was welcomed as the Grand Ole Opry’s youngest current member. In 2019, Ballerini received a CMA nomination for “Female Vocalist of the Year” and an American Music Award nomination for “Female Artist Country.” Kelsea also received a 2020 ACM nomination for “Female Artist of the Year.” Additionally, Kelsea led the 2020 CMT Award nominations with nods for “Video of the Year,” “Female Video of the Year,” and “CMT Performance of the Year.” She is unstoppable and we can’t wait to see what the future has in store for her!
Recently, Kelsea surprised our listeners at Country 102.5 Acoustic, Live, last March. While she was here, she chatted with Carolyn Kruse about her new album kelsea which includes Homecoming Queen? and the #1 song Hole In The Bottle. Kelsea spoke about how this album led her to re-find herself as a 26-year-old woman which can be vulnerable. Read more HERE.
