Boston App ‘B-Local’ Launches to Support Local Businesses
Mayor Kim Janey has announced a Boston app called ‘B-Local’ in an effort to support local businesses.
According to Boston.gov, the app will be a points-based program that offers rewards for shopping locally, with a goal of supporting local business recovery by giving Bostonians an incentive to spend locally. Shoppers can earn rewards at hundreds of participating local business across the City of Boston. The purchases can be made with credit card, debit card, or prepaid debit cards that are linked to their B-Local account. The rewards can then be redeemed later as cash discounts at participating locations.
The rewards are called “Boston Points” and they are each worth $1 when redeemed at participating businesses. The city will reimburse the cost using money from the first federal coronavirus relief act, with zero cost to the business or the app users. So far, 269 businesses have signed up, including restaurants, retail stores, cafés, gyms, yoga studios, salons, and more.
