Izabell’s Journey to End Alzheimer’s Disease
Izabell Cannon is just 12 years old, but for the past 8 years she’s been on a mission to end something that doesn’t affect her yet, and maybe not ever, but it certainly runs in her family.

On the phone, Izabell told me that her grandfather, Bud, suffered from the disease
She missed him. She missed the sugar cookies with frosting that he would make, special for her, and she missed the songs that he sang, just to her.
And let me tell you, it’s weird when you connect with a 12 year old. There shouldn’t be any common ground. I’m 32, I have a job, I’m an adult and out of school. Izabell is none of those things, but we both lost people we love to Alzheimer’s.
Since she was 2-years-old Izabell could walk, and she hasn’t stopped walking since. Since she was 4-years old and lost her grandfather, Bud, she’s wanted to make it her mission to end Alzheimer’s.
It’s a big goal for such a little kid, but she’s well on her way. She’s participated in road races, bicycle races, walks, you name it, all to raise money for the disease. But that’s not all. She’s even made bracelets and sold those too.
Izabell has raised almost $45,000 just by herself, and she’s not done.
She’s getting ready for two big races in June. A 7-mile run and a 30-mile bike ride.
She has no plans on stopping until there’s a cure.
And her mom, who says that she listens every day and takes the long way home so she can hear the feels good story every day is so proud of Izabell.
