As Mother's Day approaches this Sunday (5/9), Garth Brooks is thinking about his mom Colleen who passed away in August of 1999.

Garth’s mom was his biggest cheerleader and in the 1950's she was actually a country singer on the Capitol Records label in Nashville.

Brooks also felt her lasting impact as it echoes through his voice every time he performs his 2014 song “Mom.” He said of the song, “I was by myself in Oklahoma…sat around the dining room table and just cried like a baby. I love my mom, but it’s also pretty cool because when you have your kid, you’re everything…sometimes you have to be Mom; sometimes you have to be Dad. That song just kills me.”

Garth also talked about the song when he performed it on the Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2015.
