Tennessee House of Representatives Passes Motion To Not Honor T.J. Osborne
The Tennessee House of Representatives Republican Jeremy Faison introduced a motion to not honor country star T.J. Osborne of Brothers Osborne and the House passed it. This has caused quite a stir.
Brothers Osborne tweeted, “We’ve lived in this state for over half of our lives. @JeremyFaison4TN honored Ben Shapiro who doesn’t even live here. Jeremy, let’s have lunch one day. On us. Would really like to know more about you as a person.” Ben Shapiro is a conservative media personality who recently made headlines for complaining about the LGBT-themed holiday special, Happiest Season.
NBC News reported that Faison cited a procedural objection, although many believe that his history of supporting anti-LGBTQ legislation is the likelier reason for him blocking the motion.
Faison, who is being accused by many on Twitter of being a homophobe, replied to the invite, saying, “I would be honored to break bread with you.”
A Twitter storm followed, with Eddie Mannis, another member on the Tennessee House saying, “TJ, I’m a member of the state GOP and I’m grateful for you speaking out and being willing to share who you are. We need more people in your position to be brave and do the same. Then, and only then, will we make progress. Respect and gratitude….”
Someone quickly responded to that writing, “No, we need more people in YOUR position to speak up and be brave against your bigoted colleagues. Putting this on gay people for not speaking out enough…typical passing the buck.”

A couple fellow country stars also Tweeted on the subject, Ryan Hurd wrote, “If there’s any one who deserves some recognition, it’s T.J. He didn’t ask to be honored and actually handled this with some class, unlike these Senators.”

Jason Isbell posted, “Of course I support @brothersosborne – This bigotry is unconscionable, but did we know it would go this way? How can we still be surprised by the awful .@tngop? Is it fair to T.J. to use his incredibly beautiful story as a device to prove how hateful some of our lawmakers are?”
