Massachusetts bars have been banned from offering after-work drink specials since 1984 when Happy Hours were restricted in the state. But there’s a push on Beacon Hill to bring back Happy Hours and according to a new poll, that makes 70% of Bay Staters, well, happy.
State Rep. Mike Connolly added a provision to a larger piece of legislation which would start discussions to hopefully work toward ending the ban.
Supporters say it would be a great way to help out bars and restaurants which have struggled during the pandemic.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving doesn’t oppose ending the ban. They released a statement saying “MADD isn’t against the consumption of alcohol by those 21 and over. It’s simply if you drink, don’t drive. It’s about making the right choice, planning ahead if your plans include alcohol and using a rideshare or having a designated driver.”
