Run to Home Base Program
How Running to Home Base is Helping Military Veterans Nationwide
Have you ever wanted to run past the green monster, sprint down the 3rd base line and stomp right on home plate at Fenway Park? We’ve all had dreams. That may be one of yours.
What if I told you that you can do that… you can pretend to be a red sox for a day! And by playing out your fantasy you would also be helping out military veterans?
I was honored to sit down with Retired General Jack Hammond. General Hammond has a laundry list of impressive resume stats including visits to the White House to advise Presidents, a Distinguished Service Medal, two Legion of Merit Medals, The Bronze Star Medal, and many more distinguished accomplishments under his belt. He now serves as the Executive Director for the Home Base Program, which is a partnership between Massachusetts General Hospital and the Boston Red Sox.
The Home Base Program is instrumental in helping all-era veterans and their families from all across the country. What they’re doing is helping in the invisible wounds of war, which is something that not many of us think about. The Home Base Program will help with an intensive therapy, and so much more.
Since 2009 The Home Base Program has helped over 25,000 veterans and family members. One of their biggest fundraisers is coming up and YOU can participate.
On Saturday, September 25th they’re doing the Run to Home Base event. Everyone who participates in this fundraiser will do either a 5k or 9k walk or run all throughout scenic Boston and end at Fenway Park. You’ll run past the Green Monster, past third base, step on home plate, get a picture…it’s amazing.
And let’s just say you’re from somewhere else, like Kansas City, Or California, or wherever, you can still participate from anywhere in the world. You won’t be able to touch home plate at Fenway Park, but you’ll be able to help assist thousands of military veterans and their families through the Home Base Program.
They’re goal is to raise $2million, so let’s help them get there. Visit www.runtohomebase.org
