One Of The Most Controversial Apps Is Back
2013’s most controversial app has been relaunched! Yik Yak, an anonymous way to connect with everyone within a five-mile range, is now available in the app store. Yik Yak was previously shut down in 2017 due to the bullying and harassment happening on the app. With some upgrades and policy changes, Yik Yak is ready for you to redownload.
For those unfamiliar, on Yik Yak you can post anonymously to the message board and people can comment back. The message board is based on people posting within a five-mile radius of you. It’s a free app and rated for ages 12 and up. It’s the ideal place to rant about traffic, a bad meal at a restaurant, or even complain about the weather. However a big factor in the shutdown of Yik Yak was students use of it. Some college campuses even went to the extent of having the app banned because of the harassment students were facing.

With the relaunch, Yik Yak has made it clear the app is not a place for hate, “We’re committed to making Yik Yak a fun place free of bullying, threats, and all sort of negativity,” says their website. They’ve also shared that there is no strike system either, if you are caught bulling once, you’re banned from the app.
