What would you do if you saw this?
I would get the heck out of there, and fast! Which is actually what you should do. Wildlife experts say if you do come in contact with one of these, stay as far away as you can, and contact local authorities.
Dorchester's Sarah Kleinman was the hiker who came across the five foot snake. She told the Boston Globe that after encountering the reptile, "My first thought was that it escaped from the zoo." Massachusetts Wildlife Preservation identified the snake as a Timber Rattlesnake, which are one of the most endangered species in the state. They are native to New England, and it's illegal to disturb them, not to mention dangerous.
There are only a few places here in New England where these rare snakes can survive, and apparently the Blue Hills is one of them.
