Cole Swindell Gives New England Fans Chills Honoring His Late Mom
“You Should Be Here.” Those Cole Swindell lyrics never rang more true than Saturday night at the Xfinity Center. Oh, how I wish I was there. Seeing your posts, the videos…watching the emotion in that venue, made me feel like I was there.
Cole Swindell lost his mom, Betty, one week ago, about 8 years after his father passed. Most of us assumed he wouldn’t make his show at the Xfinity Center on Saturday, opening for Thomas Rhett on his Center Point Road Tour. We assumed wrong. Being there, was apparently just what Cole wanted, and needed.
He mentioned to the crowd that Massachusetts was a special place in his heart, as he wrote “You Should Be Here,” over 5 years ago, at Gillette Stadium after he lost his dad. He proceeded to deliver a chill-inducing-heartfelt performance of the song to his fans. He shared with the audience, “I wish y’all could see the chills on my arm right now, but I wrote it after losing my Dad y’all and your stories have inspired me. They keep me going and I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for y’all.”
Cole went on to say, “on Monday I lost my Mom. I’m sure a lot of you have heard. Thank you for all of the messages, thank you for the sign. We had her service [on] Wednesday and I flew out because Thomas Rhett said ‘hey man, take the weekend off, go to our beach house and just relax’ and I said ‘there’s no way I’m missing being up here, being in front of a crowd like this. These people have had my back since day one’ and I can promise you, My mama, she wouldn’t want me sitting at home, she would want me on stage in front of a crowd like this; people who care, people who matter.”
When the sold out crowd lit their phones up, in a very touching moment, Swindell said, “Wow, that looks like Heaven.”
