Kacey Musgraves’ ‘Star-Crossed’ Deemed Ineligible for Country Music Category At the Grammy Awards
Kacey Musgraves new album “Star-Crossed” has been deemed ineligible to be considered for country album of the year at the 64th annual Grammy Awards on January 31st.
The Recording Academy’s annual screening committee meeting was held last week, where submissions are reviewed to make sure they are placed in the appropriate category. Musgraves’ album was submitted for consideration but rejected by the committee. It’s likely that the album will be moved to the Pop category, obviously upsetting Kacey and her label.
Cindy Mabe, president of UMG Nashville, wrote a lengthy letter to the Recording Academy expressing her disappointment in the decision to not allow “Star-Crossed” into the country music category.
“This decision from the country committee to not accept star-crossed into the country albums category is very inconsistent and calls into question the other agendas that were part of this decision,” Mabe wrote.
