“Doug the Ugly Potato” Is NOT Ugly
When the entire world thinks something is ugly, doesn’t mean you have to!
New Zealand residents, Colin and Donna Craig-Brown were weeding their NZ garden when all of a sudden their hoe hit something huge.
The couple began digging below the soil. They dug and dug and dug until an object appeared. They thought, “Ok, this isn’t a strange fungal growth…it’s not a giant puffball.”
They scratched away a bit of the skin and tasted it. You guessed it. It was a huge beautiful potato.
Actually the homeowners said it was the ugliest thing they’ve ever seen, but look, it actually looks like a beaver sleeping with it’s little paws up by its chin!
This is now predicted to be the largest potato on record…17.4 pounds. That’s heavier than a dog!
And since they discovered it, everyone wants a piece of it. Not literally. But like the couple has become local celebrities. Because it’s not very often you find the world’s largest potato in the small town of Hamilton, NZ. (And let’s not even talk about the most adorable cart they built to bring it around to show people. Or the hat they put on the potato’s head).
“Doug the ugly potato” lives in the freezer now, but he’ll probably become potato vodka and I’m all about that.
