Pre-Historic Looking Endangered Rare Fish Rolls Up On Revere Beach
Imagine you are going for a leisurely walk along Revere Beach, when suddenly you spot something very strange looking that has washed up. It’s not your average fish. It’s about 5 feet long and looks pre-historic!
That happened on Tuesday to Erik Haigh, according to the The Boston Globe. Haigh said, “It had a strange snout…It looked like a dinosaur.” According to MassWildlife and the New England Aquarium, he wasn’t far off, as they told the Globe, that is was likely some type of sturgeon. Sturgeons have origins dating back as far as the Jurasic Period.
Erik may very well have saved a rare endangered fish! He said the fish had a rope around it’s tail, even though it didn’t look healthy, it was still moving, so he dragged it back out to sea.
Experts say during the 1800’s, people from all over the world came to the Eastern United States, in search of sturgeons for caviar. It was known as the “Black Gold Rush.”
You never know what is going to wash ashore.
