Blake Shelton Recalls That Time Cher Yelled At Him
Blake Shelton may be a big guy who stands six foot six, but that doesn’t mean that someone like Cher didn’t scare him a bit when she was a mentor on NBC’s The Voice back in 2013.
During Country Radio Seminar last week, Blake shared a story about the icon yelling at him on the set of The Voice back in 2013. Shelton said, “Whoever it was, we were rehearsing, and they were timid with the microphone. I go, ‘Man, what are you doing with the microphone? Grab that microphone. Make that microphone your (expletive).’ About the time I said that Cher goes, ‘What the (expletive) did you just say?’”
Blake admitted he didn’t know what to say, he continued, “She goes, ‘Do you have any idea what I stand for?’ I go … ‘I don’t know.’ I was afraid to even say one other thing.”
The tension was broken by The Voice band director, who piped in, “I don’t think it’s microphone rights, I’ll tell you that.” Shelton said Cher then started laughing.
Blake also talked about how Cher shocked him when she released an album six months later and dedicated it to his father. He explained, “We became pretty close over the next couple of days. I told her that my dad had just passed away, and he was her biggest fan. She was by a mile his favorite artist of all time.”
He continued, “At the end of her album liner notes, she wrote, ‘I want to dedicate this album to the memory of Dick Shelton.’ I completely did not expect that. I hadn’t even spoken to her since that moment, and she dedicated her entire album to Dad. It was pretty amazing.”
