Help Joshua Fill Easter Baskets for Homeless Children in Central MA
Joshua Needs Your Help Filling Easter Baskets For Homeless Children
Joshua Sowden is 9 years old and lives in Worcester, but he’s helped more people in the last two years then many adults. I got to speak with Joshua and his stepmother, Crystal on the phone and their hearts are as big as Gillette stadium.
Last year Joshua’s aunt was living in a homeless shelter. This was during the height of the pandemic and there were lots of other families in central MA who were living in shelters as well…and sadly, many children too.
Joshua learned that his Aunt was living at a shelter and about 4 weeks before Easter, he asked his stepmom, “But what about the kids? Do they have Easter baskets?” The kids didn’t, so Crystal and Joshua started a wish list with awesome items to fill in the baskets. They wanted tie dye kits to decorate eggs, candy, toys, markers and more.
Crystal put in on the Worcester mom’s FB group that she’s a part of and then she shared it on her FB page. Everyone helped fulfill the orders!
The mom and son duo learned that there were 37 kids who needed Easter baskets and in 4 weeks they made 2 baskets for each kid. That’s 74 baskets! One basket was filled with Easter egg hunt materials with little prizes, and the other basket was a craft basket with arts and crafts to decorate your own Easter eggs. They even made 8 baskets for babies.
Joshua dropped the baskets off at the four shelters in the Framingham area, and since it was during the pandemic, he wasn’t able to go inside and meet the kids he was helping.
But that hasn’t stopped him from wanting to do this again for the kids of the locals shelters! And this year Joshua has a bigger goal. He wants to fill Easter baskets for 50 kids. So he’ll have to make 100 and he las less than 5 weeks to do it!
