Tim McGraw’s ‘Perfect Night’ For His Upcoming 55th Birthday

Tim McGraw has a milestone birthday coming up this weekend (May 1) as he blows out 55 candles, but according to the man himself, he’s probably not going to do much celebrating.

Tim expresses his thoughts on turning 55, “You know, oddly enough, I’m not one of these people that look back very often. I’m always looking forward tryin’ to figure out how to improve myself and get better. Even turning 55, I still feel like I’ve got a lot more to offer, still, feel like I’ve got a lot more to learn about music and acting and fatherhood and bein’ a husband and bein’ a good person.”

He adds, “I think it’s more about looking forward. You know, one of these days, hopefully, I’ll sit in my chair and kick back and look back at my life. And having kids – you know, I have a 25-year-old, a 23-year-old, and a 20-year-old – I’m enjoying sittin’ back and watchin’ their lives progress.”

McGraw says of his weekend plans for the big day, “I’m not a big birthday celebrator. Our whole family we’re not big birthday celebrators. I mean, we have parties and stuff like that every now and then for big ones, but we’re not big birthday celebrators, and I don’t have anything planned. To me, a perfect night on my 55th birthday would be to hang with my wife on the couch and watch a great movie (laugh).”

  This is my all-time favorite song from McGraw and I’ll share something personal about it: When my son was about eight, we found this song together and as we drove around Nashville, he was always my “Shotgun Rider.” My boy knew every word of the song and I later asked McGraw himself why I couldn’t get this out of my head and he simply said, “Connection. This song gives you connection.” It sure does.
