Luke Bryan paid tribute to his friend and American Idol co-star Lionel Richie as Richie was given the Gershwin Prize by singing Lionel’s “Lady,” a song Lionel wrote for Kenny Rogers in the late 1970s.
Before his performance, Luke said, “To be here for nights like this means the world to me; I wouldn’t miss it for the world.” He then turned to the audience and said, “This guy is everything you believe him to be. I promise you.”
Bryan posted some images and a short video clip of the event on his Instagram. He wrote, “I’ve got nothing but love for you @lionelrichie! It was an incredible experience getting to honor you at the #GershwinPrize concert. Y’all tune in tonight at 9/8c on @pbs to see the full concert.”
Richie responded to the post, “Love you, man!!
