Gwen Stefani: Her Official Grand Ole Opry Debut With Blake Shelton
Gwen Stefani made her official Grand Ole Opry house debut on Saturday night’s (9/10) show when she joined her husband, Blake Shelton. Gwen posted the events leading up to her performance on her Insta stories in a series of video clips.
Gwen said in the first clip while riding in an SUV (Blake was driving), “My first time ever arriving at the Grand Ole Opry I got Blake Shelton. I’ve never been here before; what?” She then said, “Fun fact: I thought I had been on the Opry (laughs).” Blake says, “You sang on the Opry show, but during quarantine, we did it at Ole Red, but you haven’t been to the Opry house.”
The couple did perform together on the Grand Ole Opry, as Shelton said, from his Ole Red bar in Nashville in May of 2020.
Stefani then shared a video clip on her Insta stories from the parking lot of the Opry house. In the clip, Blake holds up a road cone and announces, “Welcome to the Grand Ole Opry.” The couple then lock hands and walk under the awning to enter the backstage Opry doors. They walk in, and Gwen says, filming with her phone, “I’m getting a tour from the man himself. This place is so awesome; Blake has his own mailbox for fan mail, number 176; it’s empty because he had so much fan mail they had to put it in a bag. ”
Shelton then opens the door that leads to the stage. “This is where it happens, and I hear music.” The couple then steps into the side stage onto the stage to rehearse. The couple then takes the stage and begins to sing.
Later, she posted a clip of her dressed for the show. She offered, “Hello, I am on Blake’s bus, and he invited me to come on stage here in Nashville at the Grand Ole Opry, legendary, so that’s happening.” She then joined him on stage to sing the couple’s hit together, “Nobody But You.” After the performance, they received a standing ovation.
Blake posted a clip of the couple on stage on his Instagram. He captioned the video, “I am absolutely beside myself right now… Congratulations, @gwenstefani, on not one but TWO standing ovations for your Grand Ole @opry stage debut!!!! That was an incredible moment to witness.”
The post was liked over 34,000 times, and Little Big Town’s Kimberly Schlapman reacted with emoji hearts.
Shelton was at the Opry to celebrate his 12th anniversary as a member. He is celebrating his 12th year as an Opry member. Back in 2010, when he was made a member of the Grand Ole Opry, he told me in an interview, “This is the reason that you move to Nashville if you’re me. This is what I wanted from the beginning is to make a mark in country music, and this is the ultimate one, I think.”
