Many people may be sleeping on the couch tonight after a new study found that hearing “I love you” doesn't compare to the duration of post-victory happiness.

Hearing those three sweet words makes people feel good for an average of four hours, but the boost from your favorite team's victory lasts four hours and nine minutes!

The biggest burst of happiness comes from spending time with family, lasting four hours and 33 minutes, closely followed by getting a nice tan from a vacation.

What's interesting is that finishing a workout results in respondents feeling happier for 30 minutes than eating junk food does.

A bargain at a store leaves people feeling satisfied for three hours and 39 minutes, which is longer than eating a chocolate bar, receiving a compliment, or having a cold alcoholic drink on a hot day.

Capital One UK commissioned a survey to mark the opening of Happé Café, to find out what makes British adults happiest.

More than one in four (27%) get their dopamine hit from spending time with family, while 23 percent get their dopamine hit from taking a walk in nature. Births (21%), getting married (18%), and meeting their partner (14%) are listed as the three most significant events in life.

People are at their happiest on Friday.

Nearly six in 10 (59%) get their “feel good” from the little things in life, rather than from grand gestures. Another 68% prolong what makes them happy, such as drinking a good cup of tea, to make it last longer.

However, financial climate being what it is, 39% of respondents reported having to forgo activities that brought them pleasure. Takeout meals (42%), holidays (39%), and social activities with friends (37%) are among the most frequently forsaken activities.

24 percent of people said that they feel happy when they go shopping, and 21 percent said that they would continue to shop daily even if they had to give up their coffee.
