Elle King: ‘There’s a Loretta Lynn-sized Hole In The World’
Even though Elle King just recently came to the country music genre doesn’t mean that country icon Loretta Lynn didn’t influence her from an early age.
Elle told us of the icon’s passing on Tuesday (10/4), “Loretta Lynn is one of my absolute biggest inspirations. I remember first hearing country music as a young girl. And hearing her voice and her songs and her sense of humor. It reminded me of where my family’s from in southern Ohio and made me feel like maybe one day I could sing about things in my life.”
She added, “And there’s definitely a Loretta Lynn-sized hole in the world right now. But she will live on forever through her music and through her fans, and there’s only one; there can only be one Loretta Lynn.”
Elle recently teased some new music while picking a banjo on a front porch. She captioned the video clip on Instagram, “Come Get Your Wife.”
King’s “I Know Where I’ve Been” is a featured song in the forthcoming Netflix film Luckiest Girl Alive. The song is the only original song on the soundtrack, which Hall Of Fame Songwriter Linda Perry produced.
Elle said in a press release, “I was instantly drawn to this song when I heard it. Linda was one of the first people in this industry to see something in me when I was 19 years old. I look up to her so much, and she’s carved a path for so many artists like me.”
She added, “She makes powerful music, and it’s pretty dang cool she lets me be a part of it.”
Luckiest Girl Alive is a mystery drama based on the 2015 New York Times bestselling novel by Jessica Knoll. It stars Mila Kunis, Connie Britton, Justine Lupe, Chiara Aurelia, Jennifer Beals, Finn Wittrock, Scoot McNairy, Thomas Barbusca, Carson MacCormac, Dalmar Abuzeid, and Alex Barone.
