MBTA’s “Voice of the T” Frank Oglesby is Being Phased Out After 25 Years for Automated Voice
Another robot taking another job. Frank Oglesby is the “Voice of the T.” He’s been employed by the MBTA for over 25 years. If you’ve ever ridden the T you’ve most likely heard his booming baritone voice. Sadly though, Frank is being replaced by an automated voice.
I’m sorry to be a whiner but knowing that there’s an actual human – who, while unknown to many, is a major star in the city – making the announcements was very personal and a great touch. Now robots will quack at us with all of the info the MBTA wants to let us know. That automated voice will resonate the same warmth as any other computer program or inanimate piece of technology.
What’s next? Are my days as a radio announcer numbered? Soon I too may be replaced by a box plugged into the wall. Someone will see this post in 20 years and hopefully laugh about how far off I am… or maybe they’ll think I’m the new Nostradamus. That would suck because that means I’ve been replaced by a box plugged into the wall. That hurts.
Anyway, we’ll miss you Frank Oglesby. Thanks for keeping us company on our travels for all these years.
