In Massachusetts, after you die there are 3 options: get buried, get cremated, or have your body donated to science. Now Mass lawmakers are hoping to add option #4: get turned into compost.
Representative Natalie Higgins of Worcester says she wants to have her body turned into lush soil to be placed outside her late great grandparents’ house. She feels it’s the most globally responsible thing to do with herself – plus – it’s a very meaningful spot for her to be spread. Human composting is currently not sanctioned in Massachusetts but the idea is gaining traction and becoming legal in more states – New York just became the 6th state to make it a legal option. A 2021 bill is still active trying to legalize human composting in Massachusetts.
