This 1926 Iconic Boston Restaurant Is The Oldest In The North End
They’ve been rolling it out on Thatcher Street in the North End since 1926. People still line up outside the door of this popular spot for a taste of their world famous pizza. But don’t ask for much more than that, because that’s mostly all they have. And why not? Don’t mess with success.
Walking the streets of Boston’s historic North End you will see many restaurants that have been there for generations. But if you ever wondered, what the oldest restauarnt in the North End is, here’s your answer: Regina Pizzeria. According to an article in boston.com, The North End Historical Society’s Tom Damigella said the spot opened in 1926 as a pizza parlor. Not much has changed since then including the German oven they’ve been using since first opening their doors. Here, it’s all about the pizza, which is why you won’t find many other items. They did finally add salads and a few other items over recent years.
A spokesperson for Regina Pizzeria, Stuart Thompson, relayed, “the recipe for the thin crust has been passed down over the years, and its flavor comes from the fact that the restaurant ages the dough. The small brick building even has the same booth configuration as when they first opened. In fact, as Thompson explained, “If you walk into Regina right now, that operation is going to be about as similar to something you would have seen in 1926 as possible.” Nearly 100 years strong, Regina Pizzeria is still a popular go-to restaurant in Boston.
