Starting in May: No Alcohol Allowed On This Popular Cape Cod Beach
No Fun Zone! Starting May 20th, beachgoers are not allowed to drink alcohol this summer on Cahoon Hollow Beach in Wellfleet, MA. This news is unfortunate for the patrons of the famous bar, The Beachcomber. The Beachcomber has been a staple of partying and drinking, and it’s right above the beach. But thankfully, this rule will not last forever! You can drink again on Cahoon Hollow Beach on Sept 20th (unless the town decides to change the rules at the end of the season).
Why is the town of Wellfleet making this new rule? According to The Provincetown Independent, the ban is a response to an increase of rowdy behavior at the beach. There were too many instances of inappropriate behavior and intoxicating moments in the parking lot. The National Seashore Chief Ranger, Michael Valora, told the newspaper that this drinking ban will continue every summer until the “drunken behavior is under control.”
Just when you think the fun police is ruining everything on Cape Cod, drinking will still be allowed on other Cape Cod beaches. This ban currently, and only, effects the beaches owned by the town of Wellfleet.
Here are some breweries and wineries you can go to instead!

It was an unknown monk who once said, “He who drinks beer sleeps well. He who sleeps well cannot sin. He who does not sin goes to heaven. Amen.”
You can’t argue with that logic, so in the interest of public well-being, I’ll be continuing the “Lushy List,” a new series highlighting breweries and wineries across the Commonwealth!
This week, we are highlighting Cape Cod. If the snow has you dreaming of a cold IPA next to a brewery fire pit, or if you can’t wait to go from sand to Sandwich’s Tree House Brewing Company, then this is the list for you! And if you are simply looking for your next great beer, than sit back, crack open a cold one, and begin scrolling.
