Chris Young: ‘I Can Drop A Record Tomorrow’

Chris Young said in a recent interview that as his single "Looking For You" is heading to the top of the country charts and could very well be his 14th number-one song, he's got a new record "pretty much done."

Chris added, "I can drop a record tomorrow. If I need to put out multiple videos, I've already filmed videos for several songs. All that stuff is done, and I'm so proud of this record."

Young went on to say that even if he didn't have an album done, he could release several songs at this point. He noted that he likes the fact that these days, you can put out a single and "let people hear stuff" before it comes out." Chris said that he is happy with his new upcoming album and "can't wait" for others to hear it. He said that fans won't have to wait long. While he would not give a release date, he said the new work will be available "soon."

Young told us recently that he keeps his personal life personal and does not divulge who he is dating. He never has in the 17 years he has been charting hits in country music.

Chris told us in an interview that while he does not kiss and tell, his love life affects his music. He offered, "I would go as far as saying I'm opposed (to speaking about it). I don't talk about my personal life. I keep that separate. Some people do, and some people don't; I do. I will say that, yeah, there are totally times when a relationship or a situation I've been in influences my songs, and I think that's important because it comes from a place of realism. I can sing it and mean it."

Young adds about his latest love song, "Looking For You," "I'll just be blunt, I didn't write this about anybody. That being said, I've been in this situation before where I was just like, I'm just gonna be single, and then somebody walks in like a friend of a friend, and I am just like, 'Holy crap...Who is she?' That one thousand percent has happened to me before."

Chris Young has been scoring consistent number-one songs in country music since he won the Nashville Star in 2006. To date, his song chart-topping success is at eleven.

Young recently praised fellow Tennessean and country star Jelly Roll. He said of his friend's success, "I'm just not even going to talk about me because, at this point, I just want to talk about him. And how welcoming and awesome and polite and nice that guy is. And you know, he's just having such a cool run right now."

He added, "I remember talking about this music he's putting out like, I think, well over a year ago. And it's just amazing to see him having the moment he's having. "

In the same interview, Chris cited a hero of his. He said, "A female artist that has definitely influenced me from the perspective of the stage show, vocalist, performance, and just how much she has accomplished in her career that I look up to is Reba McEntire. If you make a Mount Rushmore of country music, I have a whole lot of reasons why she should be on there."

He added, "And she's just a fantastic person and a fantastic artist. Another woman in the music industry that has really had a profound impact on me, especially from a songwriting perspective, is Liz Rose (frequent Taylor Swift collaborator). I got a chance to meet her really early on in my career, and obviously, she's had so many hits, so many hits. But just being in a room with her, being able to learn from her, I feel incredibly lucky to have that opportunity, and to have someone that's that adept at songwriting help me learn and help guide me as a songwriter and an artist."
