Is ‘Slap Fighting’ Really More Popular Than ALL Other Major Sports Combined?
It might seem uncomfortable to see a woman being slapped, but in this case these two women are competing in slap fighting!
Slap fighting is taking the world by storm, and it’s now viewed more than all other American sports combined.
Before you say, “That’s not possible because I don’t see it on TV!” You would be correct. You don’t see slap fighting featured on primetime television anymore. UFC founder, Dana White, had a a show called Power Slap, but it got taken off of TBS after one season.
However, in the world of online consumption, watching people slap each other in the face as a sport is one of the most watched content on TikTok. 3.5 billion people on TikTok watch content from the hashtag #slapfight. That’s more than any other American sport combined.
Why is it so popular and how did we get here as a society? The answer is simple: Dana White.
The Role of Dana White
Dana White is the current president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He has long been a trailblazer in the realm of combat sports, so his interest in slap fighting shouldn’t come as a surprise.
With his influence, Dana has pushed the envelope once more, this time by shedding light on the unconventional world of slap fighting. His involvement has undoubtedly helped to elevate the sport to the global stage, with more people watching and engaging in slap fighting than ever before.
A Comparison with American Sports
Slap fighting has a long way to go when you compare it to American sports such as basketball, baseball, and football. These traditional sports have established fan bases that span several generations and they’ve been around for centuries.
But the popularity of slapping faces is one of the most popular things/sports to view online. So that brings up a legitimate question. Will this be a legitimate sport in the Olympics someday in the future?

Even though sports betting is legal now in MA, you cannot bet on slapping other people in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Massachusetts Gaming Commissioner, Eileen O’Brien, called the sport “appalling.”
“With all the concerns over head injuries, I am not comfortable with (this sport) being added in the Commonwealth,” O’Brien said.
